Raw Dog Food Preparation Guide
Section 3 – Pathogen Control And Cleaning
Video Summary For Pathogen Control And Cleaning:
- People fear this section the most, but do not need to
- Use basic cleaning practices as you do already in preparing meat for human consumption
- Grass fed pasture meats and organic free range poultry much less likely to contain pathogens
- All fish must be cooked!
- Remove all non-essential items from kitchen space – reduce risk of splatter on items that will not be cleaned
- We use biodegradable soap and vinegar – first remove all food particles, clean with soap and rinse, then do final vinegar spray of counters and wipe down with paper towels
- Remove all food particles from dish rags/scouring pads and soak in vinegar for a bit
- Don’t forget to clean cabinets and floors, and your clothing and shoes if you prepare large batches of food
- When feeding dogs, clean their bowls and utensils used in soap and hot water, wash down any surfaces where meat or juice has fallen on with vinegar and paper towels, remove all food particles from dish rags/scouring pads used to clean bowls and utensils, then soak in vinegar for a bit
