Private Dog Park Property Rentals At The Light of Dog Farm

What Is Our Off-Leash Dog Park?

Rental is available only to group class, private training or boarding clients of The Light Of Dog and with prior approval.  Please contact us first to determine if this is a good option for you and your dog(s).

Our total property is 13.5 acres. Our Off-Leash Dog Park area is 6.5 acres of that total split in two sections separated by fencing and gates between both sections.

Dogs must be walked on leash from vehicles to the off-leash area. Dogs must be leashed before exiting vehicles. It is a short walk to the off-leash area. Once through the gate, you can let your dogs off leash.

The gate is at the bottom of our hill. The off-leash area goes up to the top of our hill. There is a mix of scrub oak and open space going up the hill. Dogs have plenty of space to run and explore in and around the scrub oak.

There are several parkour obstacles along the way for the dogs to climb on, jump over and explore around. Logs, tree stumps, benches.

At the top of the hill are several benches if you want to sit and enjoy the view while your dog explores and runs around.

At the top of the hill, there is a fence/gate where you can enter the 2nd part of our off-leash dog park area. Please close gates behind you. Gates should never be left open.

As you walk down the hill to the east, this 2nd area is much thicker with scrub oak. There are trails on both the north and south sides of the area. If you walk carefully, you can also walk along the fence line on either side. Just be careful of tree roots/stumps so you do not trip!

There is another bench at the far end of the property.

Details

  • Fencing. 4-foot livestock fence with gates and gate latches.
  • Woods.  We have scrub oak stands and some clear spaces. There is some shade in the taller scrub oak and thicker scrub oak areas but it is very limited.
  • Scenic view. We have excellent view of our valley and the horse ranch to the north of us.
  • Hill.  From the parking to the top of our hill is approximately 75 feet elevation gain.
  • Grasses.  Grass is a mix of short and tall, with tall typically 6 inches high during the growing season but not very thick so easy to walk through.
  • Pasture. We have open spaces between scrub oak stands that allow plenty of room to run around.
  • Farm animal sightings. Occasionally there might be horses in the ranch to our north visible in the valley, but we have never seen them next to our fence.  During the spring/summer there might also be a large herd of goats and they might be next to or close to our fence, but this is rare.
  • Wild animal sightings. We have deer and bunnies on our property at times. Occasionally elk and coyotes can be seen in the ranch valley.  We saw a bobcat once.  Skunks are present but we have never seen them during the day.  There could be bears and mountain lions, but we have never seen them.
  • Snow.  We have snow in the winter.
  • Mud.  Some spots could be muddy in between melting snow or rain, especially in the parking area.

Amenities

  • Dog drinking water. Outside of seasons with night below freezing (usually May through October), we have a large bucket with water that is constantly circulated with fresh water. Please still bring your own water and container as a backup.

Visitation Instructions

  • Park in any of the designated parking areas near the barn and garage.
  • Dogs must be leashed before exiting your vehicle and until you have entered and securely closed the gate entering the off-leash space.
  • Never enter a spot before your booking start time and never leave late.
  • Walk up the hill, going east past the chicken coop, upper barn, fenced growing area and the outdoor training area.  There will be a gate with a latch.  Go through the gate to access the dog park rental property area.  You are entering the first of two parcels separated by fencing and gates.  At the top of the hill is entry to the second parcel that goes east. Always securely close gates behind you. Never leave a gate open.

Cautions

  • We use a 4-foot livestock fence, which is not safe for small dogs (under 30 pounds). If your dog can jump a 4-foot fence, please do not use our dog park.  There can be deer and bunnies in this space. If this is a problem for your dog, you should not use our dog park.
  • Please do not allow dogs to dig in the off-leash area. Especially at/under fences. If this does happen, please notify us before you leave so we can ensure the space is safe for the next dogs.
  • Please note that there is a lot of scrub oak for dogs to run along and explore. While we have never had a problem with our dogs, there is the chance of a dog's collar or harness getting caught in the scrub oak.
  • We strongly recommend your dog have a reliable recall to utilize our space. Alternatively, you could use a long line with your dog until a reliable recall is established.
  • The eastern-most parcel is much thicker with scrub oak and harder to see your dog.  If your dog does not have a reliable recall and gets distracted easily, you might not want to utilize this part of the property.
