Off-Leash Reliability

Do you dream of having a dog you can hike with off leash? Do you dream of having a dog you can take off leash (where appropriate) and feel confident that your dog will stick with you and respond reliably?

Some of us want to be able to hike or walk off leash with our dogs. Some people never plan to have their dogs off leash. In either case, it makes sense to take some steps to prepare for circumstances where your dog might end up off leash, even if you didn’t intend it. 

Ever have a leash or clip break? Ever have a dog slip his collar or harness? Ever have a dog chew through the leash? There are many ways to inadvertently end up with an off leash dog!

Some of us do plan to have our dogs off leash in certain situations, and we must take proper steps to keep our dogs and others safe. This takes some work before you head out and let your dog off that leash. 

Off-leash reliability is great for hiking or walks when you are in areas where it is safe and legal to have your dog off leash. Dogs love to have the freedom to run and stretch their legs and explore in a way that they simply cannot do when on a leash. 

Even if that off leash circumstance is only in a fenced dog park, off leash reliability is still something you should be working toward. Although the area might be fenced in, off leash control is still something you might need.
