What to do:

Once you have reviewed the handouts and video clips, decide what reward marker you want to use – a clicker or a verbal marker/word. Determine what is rewarding to your dog in different situations and think about how you can incorporate training throughout the day in short sessions. Start working on reinforcing behavior you want.

What You Will Learn:

You will be more successful with your training if you are able to more clearly read signs from your dog of confusion, stress or fear. A large part of successful training is being able to clearly communicate with your dog. If your dog is confused and does not understand what you want, you will very likely see signs of stress from your dog. This will help you to understand that your dog is not being stubborn or defiant or “blowing you off” but rather your dog simply does not understand what you are asking. By better understanding your dog’s body language, you will be a far more effective trainer.
