Willy is a Goldendoodle who boards with us at The Light of Dog regularly. We sometimes joke that we share custody of him since he's here so often. When dogs board with us, we keep a Boarding Log where we post daily updates and photos. We could write a book with all of Willy's adventures here, so we thought we would share a few of his stories. This is an excerpt from Willy's log, dated 05/24/21.

Willy and I did our walk this morning after the redheads got their walk. There is good news and bad news.

  • Good news – we started out on the long line to get tuned in first so we can make good decisions
  • Bad news – he did a bit of pulling at first trying to get where he wanted to go
  • Good news – he settled in after a couple of minutes and did much better
  • Good news – because he was doing better he got to be off leash the rest of the walk
  • Good news – he was doing a nice job staying w me and checking in once off leash
  • Bad news – he found something disgusting to roll in and smelled like, well, let’s just say it: Shit. Because that is what he rolled in. All over his shoulder and neck.
  • Good news – he did a pretty good job checking in with me
  • Good news – when I did need to call him, he usually came pretty quickly
  • Bad news – when he smelled so bad, I kinda didn’t want him walking so close to me, but that’s when he was most attentive
  • Good news – Eddie was willing to help me clean him up once we got back (after Willy was getting tired and I was tired of the smell)
  • Good news – it seems to mostly wash off
  • Bad news – you might want to make sure he gets a more thorough 2nd bath when he gets home
  • Good news – he was very happy to get some off leash time finally!

The other Good news I forgot to add to the list for the morning walk was that he did NOT bite my thumb at all when taking treats, which really, was by far the best news of all.

Our goal is to positively impact the lives of as many dogs and their families as we can, in part through our extensive library of video, infographics and text articles.
