Do stuffed dogs make good play mates? Well, Zooka decided to give this stuffed dog the benefit of the doubt and find out.

From the time Zooka was a young pup, he has had a large stuffed dog to play with, but that one looks like a stuffed toy and he clearly knows it is a toy and not a dog.

In this video, Zooka (11 months) first meets this new “dog” who is also a stuffed dog but looks more like a real dog in the shape, size, etc. So it was entertaining to watch how he interacted with it. He appears to be trying to get it to play with him as a real dog would.

This stuffed dog is one of my “decoy dogs” that sometimes use with dog-reactive dogs. The vast majority of dogs will view this dog as a “real dog” when approached from a distance. Once they get in closer, some realize quickly that it is not, in fact, a real dog. Others take a bit longer to catch on – attempting to sniff the dog's rear end, etc.

Zooka seemed to spend a while trying to get this dog to play with him, but with no luck getting any playful response.

You might interpret this as Zooka not being the brightest of students. I choose to interpret it as Zooka is the most optimistic of students!

Either way, it was entertaining to watch.

Our goal is to positively impact the lives of as many dogs and their families as we can, in part through our extensive library of video, infographics and text articles.
