You might have already read a few stories about Gunner. He was my very first Greyhound. He was a retired racer in Wisconsin who joined me when I still lived in Minnesota. He made the move to Colorado with me.

We shared a lot of adventures over the nearly seven years we had together. In addition to moving to Colorado with me, he moved four different times with me. We shared a few houses with roommates before we were able to buy our own house.

When we moved into our own house, Gunner took it all in stride like he did all of our other moves. This time, however, we had more space. We had a larger house all to ourselves!

Since the new master bedroom was so large, I decided it was time for Gunner to get a nice new dog bed.

He was not allowed on the furniture. I have since adjusted my rules, but at the time, dogs were not allowed on any of the furniture.

So I went looking for a new dog bed that I thought he would like. Greyhounds love soft comfy beds since they do not have much body fat.

I was having trouble finding one I really liked. Plus I was on a budget, so I didn't want to spend a fortune.

As I was looking, I realized that I could actually buy him a twin sized mattress and give him a bed that was larger than most dog beds and just as comfy – maybe more so!

So, I bought a brand new twin size mattress and then found some cozy comforters at the thrift store that were easy to wash.

He loved his new big bed with the cozy comforters he could arrange how he wanted.

Normally, in the evenings, we would hang out in the living room together. At bed time, I would let him out for one last potty trip in the back yard before we headed up to the bedroom.

Once he got his new bed, he would ask to go out to potty earlier in the evening. Then he would head straight to bed. Sometimes a good hour or two earlier than I normally went to bed. He loved his bed so much he would put himself to bed early!

Nothing wrong with that, I was just thrilled that he loved his new bed so much!
