Willy is a Goldendoodle who boards with us at The Light of Dog regularly. We sometimes joke that we share custody of him since he's here so often. When dogs board with us, we keep a Boarding Log where we post daily updates and photos. We could write a book with all of Willy's adventures here, so we thought we would share a few of his stories. This is an excerpt from Willy's log, dated 10/24/20.
Willy, Zooka and I went for our morning walk/training. Chilly out but much nicer than yesterday.
About 20 seconds into our walk, Zooka flushed a bunny and took off after it. Willy joined in. Zooka came back immediately after the bunny disappeared.
Willy did not. Called his name. Said Let’s Go, called his name several more times. Nothing.
Zooka and I had to go find him, then he “checked in” when I was practically on top of him and then he expected me to reward him for checking in with me even though he really did not.
He listened well and checked in plenty with me. . . as long as there were no thoughts of bunnies in the near vicinity. Lost him again a couple of times when he was hunting for bunnies and paying zero attention to the rest of us.
As much as he enjoys hunting for bunnies, his actual hunting skills are pretty lacking.
I would venture to say that if Willy had to make it on his own, he would have to rely on the kindness of strangers. It's a good thing he makes friends wherever he goes!
Every time Zooka would start stalking, Willy would run ahead with abandon and go “where’s the bunny at?!!”
There is no stealth in him, it appears.
Our goal is to positively impact the lives of as many dogs and their families as we can, in part through our extensive library of video, infographics and text articles. |
