Zooka, Blitzen and I headed out on our afternoon walk as usual. They both stalk out the front door, past the garage, and past the chicken coop in hopes of catching a bunny off guard. Zooka goes to the north side of the garage/coop, and Blitzen and I take the south side.

Zooka got ahead of us and came around the far side of the coop/shed toward us. Most of the time, we don't actually see any bunnies. But we do often enough to keep the hope alive.

Turns out, this time we did see a bunny.

The bunny saw Zooka and took off. Unfortunately, in his attempt to escape Zooka, he did not notice Blitzen. The bunny ran STRAIGHT at Blitzen. Head on, collision course.

A fraction of a second before he got swept up in the jaws of death, he leaped straight OVER Blitzen’s head. He was literally a few inches from ending up in Blitzen's mouth. The bunny twisted in midair and lands just behind Blitzen.

The bunny takes off running with two Vizslas hot on his tail. He narrowly escapes into the thick scrub oak.
Wowza! That was dramatic.

Later on the walk, Blitzen flushes a hawk out of the scrub oak with a bunny in his talons. Same bunny? I don't know.

But I do know it was quite a day for the bunnies around here. And not a happy ending for at least one of them.
