Willy is a Goldendoodle who boards with us at The Light of Dog regularly. We sometimes joke that we share custody of him since he's here so often. When dogs board with us, we keep a Boarding Log where we post daily updates and photos. We could write a book with all of Willy's adventures here, so we thought we would share a few of his stories. This is an excerpt from Willy's log, dated 1/12/23.
We walked later this morning. It was an. . . interesting walk. We walked to the top of the hill. Our handyman Will was working toward the back of the property, but he had the tractor parked at the top of the hill by the gate that goes to the back part of the property.
Willy saw it and decided it did not belong there. He started alarm barking at it. I talked him down from that, but only after I walked over to it, touched it, made sure he knew it was ok to be there.
Then he noticed Will’s jacket hanging on the post at the gate. Lions! And tigers! And bears! Oh my!!
He was absolutely certain that jacket was far more evil than the tractor and surely would kill us all!
I gave him a chance to realize it wasn’t coming after us. Nope.
I touched it. Nope.
I picked it up and held it. Oh hell no!
I could NOT convince him that the jacket was not an extreme threat to him.
Finally I hung it back on the post and we went to the other gate. Wowza!
Then I leashed him up on the long line so we could walk to the back of the property. I have not had him on the long line in a long time, since we normally stick to our fenced areas and he can be off leash.
He did quite well. No pulling. Probably helped that we were in some decent snow. Apparently it is still much deeper back there than it is on the rest of the property.
We walked to the back and found Will.
He was hesitant to approach Will at first but then was fine. Usually when we see Will on our walks, Willy just ignores him. But I needed to chat with Will about the project, so Willy settled down and found a stick to chew on and lie in the snow for a few minutes.
The rest of the walk was uneventful. He definitely has been doing more of his own thing in the snow and then catching up to me.
Our goal is to positively impact the lives of as many dogs and their families as we can, in part through our extensive library of video, infographics and text articles. |
