We started with Find It indoors to get the game started. As we discussed in our first post, it can be a useful tool when working with things such as dog-dog reactivity and other situations. It can be helpful where your dog struggles to maintain his composure or tends to fixate on things you do not want them fixating on.
Find It can also be a fun game. It's a great way to get them using their nose and burning energy in a way that helps calm them and not amp them up.
Once dogs understand the game, we can start to play it anywhere. Our Part 2 post discussed working on it outdoors. Our Part 3 post discusses how to utilize it when your dog is on leash.
In this post, we have some video examples of using the Find It Game with obstacles. On our property, we do a lot of Parkour with our dogs. We have benches, logs and other obstacles that the dogs can jump over or climb on. But we also use these same obstacles to make our Find It Game more challenging.
For this version of the game, we do not toss treats and have them go after the treats right away. This version requires dogs to hold a Wait while we lay treats out on the obstacles. Then we release when we are done with Find It!
Willy is a Goldendoodle who often stays with us. He loves the Find It Game as much as our boys do. Take a look.
Our goal is to positively impact the lives of as many dogs and their families as we can, in part through our extensive library of video, infographics and text articles. |
