Does your dog howl? We recently discovered Zooka's ability to howl and oh my!
Most of our dogs have never been howlers. We had a couple of dogs who did on rare occasions, but it was never something we heard with any regularity. We had never heard it from Zooka either. Until August 2020, when Zooka was 15 months old.
Usually, if a dog howls, there is a specific trigger that sets it off. Often, the trigger is a siren from an ambulance or other emergency vehicle. In Zooka's case, it was several vehicles. When he hears one siren go by on our road, he listens and is attentive to it, but he does not howl. But one day we had several emergency vehicles drive past our house one after the other.
Apparently, multiple vehicles were just too much to resist.
If your dog is a howler, what triggers set them off?
We had one dog who would sometimes howl when our cat would howl. That was pretty entertaining!

Thats hilarious! I love it when dogs howl. Our Standard Poodle, Nellie would howl also when she heard a siren or when she heard other dogs howling in the neighborhood. She would change pitch every few seconds so it sounded like a song.
We’ll probably be using your training in the spring when we get a new puppy in the Spring.
